Harvey Road ‘Come Home’ Mural Unveiled

Today, Deputy Mayor Sheilagh O’Leary was joined by artist Molly Margaret and provincial government representatives at the official unveiling of a new mural on Harvey Road. The mural was created by Molly Margaret and Lily Taylor and celebrates the meaning of home to people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The City committed $19,500 for this project which was also supported by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, providing $24,500 through the Come Home 2022 Cultural Funding Program. The Rooms Corporation also supported this project, offering studio and storage space for the artist team.

“We are pleased to see this mural project installed on Harvey Road,” said the Deputy Mayor. “Murals such as this one enhance our city and provide residents and visitors an opportunity to engage with art. We can think of no better way to beautify this neighbourhood than to explore the meaning of home from multiple perspectives, through visual art.”

Artists Molly Margaret and Lily Taylor have taken a digital approach to the creation of the mural, with their design adhered to thin aluminum panels along a section of Harvey Road.

“Our mural celebrates the ever-expanding urban settings of our province and highlights our unique floral and fauna in a fun and engaging way, said Molly Margaret. “We are pleased to see our creation installed and hope that it brings joy to those who see it.”
