The City of St. John’s would like to inform visitors to the Mundy Pond area that the resident mute swan, Harry, has been permanently relocated to Hope for Wildlife, a wildlife rehabilitation and education centre in Nova Scotia.

Harry has been a long-time resident of Mundy Pond and has been well cared for over the years by City Public Works staff, with support from Humane Services. After losing his nesting partner a few years ago, he has been living on his own. Swans are social animals that thrive in the company of other swans and birds, and this relocation will allow Harry to spend his later years in a more natural, social environment.

In recent winters, Humane Services has provided seasonal care for the aging swan during colder months. Following his care this winter, Harry was safely relocated to Hope for Wildlife. The City’s Parks and Recreation and Humane Services divisions would also like to thank Rock Wildlife for their assistance with the move.

The City thanks the many residents and visitors who have enjoyed visiting the Mundy Pond swan over the years.
