New Parking Pay Stations to be Installed
The city is continuing the expansion of parking pay stations in the Downtown and Churchill Square areas as part of its Paid Parking Strategy. New locations will be as follows:
- Casey Street – 12 spaces (4 hour maximum). This area was previously metered but is currently operating as a timed parking zone.
- Central Street – 26 spaces (8 hour maximum). This area was previously a commercial permit area, which is being updated based on feedback from users in the area. There will still be 12 spaces that will remain permitted.
- Veteran’s Square – 5 spaces (4 hour maximum). This area was redesigned as part of the Veteran’s Square Reconfiguration Project. Parking in the area is currently a mix of no restriction and paid parking.
- Rowan Place – 18 spaces (3 hour maximum). This area was defined through road upgrades and development and will fall under the same management as the Churchill Square Paid Parking Program.
- Rickett’s Road North – 35 spaces (four hour maximum). This area currently has no restrictions. Paid parking will be implemented upon completion of sidewalk upgrades. Paid parking is being introduced to encourage turnover and improve parking availability for those visiting the nearby St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital.
Paid parking will come into effect on Casey Street, Central Street and Veteran’s Square the week of August 7. Rowan Place and Rickett’s Road North will be implemented following the completion of construction projects in these areas in fall 2023. Updated signage will be posted on each street, prior to parking enforcement coming into effect.
At the completion of the roll out, all paid parking spaces will have both PayByPhone and Pay Stations available. Pay stations have multiple payment options including credit cards, debit cards (via the tap function) and mobile payment.
The paid parking program helps to ensure turnover for businesses and services in these areas and is part of a sustainable and effective on-street parking program.
