New Strategic Plan Initiatives for 2023
The City of St. John’s strategic plan, Our City Our Future, provides strategic direction for a ten-year period, 2019-2029. The Plan is continuously evolving, dependent on the economy, resources, public needs and engagement, assessments, and budget. As projects are completed, new initiatives are added annually.
At the beginning of 2023, 39 new initiatives were approved by Council and added to the strategic plan. Thirty-two of these goals, ambitiously have an anticipated completion date by end of year.
Some of the projects underway this year include:
- Finishing Phase 5 of Water Street Infrastructure Improvements
- Flood hazard mapping for 7 streams
- Implementing 8 traffic calming projects
- Public engagement on future Shared Used Paths
- Canada Games Track and Field Legacy Facility
- Improving access to permit application information and status for stakeholders
- Improving reliability of the public transit service by upgrading the communications system from analog to digital
- Implementing Accessible Pedestrian signals in 2 Locations
The Strategic Plan builds on our successes and keeps us focused on our longer-term directions for a sustainable city; a city that moves; a connected city; and an effective city.
