SJRFD Celebrates Fire Prevention Week October 4 to 10
The St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) is joining communities across the country for Fire Prevention Week, October 4 to 10, with this year’s theme: “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.”
The campaign, sponsored by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), focuses on safe charging and battery safety. Throughout the week, SJRFD will share fire safety tips and information on social media.
Residents are also invited to take part in the following Fire Prevention Week activities:
Open House
Date: Saturday, October 3
Time: 1 to 4 p.m.
Location: West End Fire Station, 215 Blackmarsh Road
Meet Sparky the Fire Dog, try a VR fire extinguisher simulator, use a fire hose, enjoy fire safety games, explore firefighting equipment, and meet SJRFD firefighters and Fire Prevention staff.
Overflow parking will be available at the City Depot on Blackler Avenue.
Fire Safety Night
Date: Thursday, October 8
Time: 6 to 8 p.m.
Location: Paul Reynolds Community Centre, 35 Carrick Drive
Enjoy fire safety games, a fire truck, loot bags and a visit from Sparky the Fire Dog.
School Visits & Fire Drills
SJRFD members will visit schools throughout the region to talk with students about fire safety and conduct and evaluate school fire drills.
Fire Chief for a Day
Children 7 to 12 years old (Grades 4 to 6) can enter the Fire Prevention Week Poster Contest for a chance to be selected as Fire Chief for a Day.
Create an 8.5 x 11-inch poster based on this year’s theme: “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.”
Posters can be dropped off at the SJRFD Administration Office, entrance off Parade Street, October 5 to 9, between 9:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Entries must be submitted before October 23, 2026. Please include the child’s name, school, age and telephone number on the back.
