Fire Chief Sherry Colford of the St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD), along with representatives from the City of St. John’s, City of Mount Pearl, Town of Paradise and IAFF Local 1075 will officially welcome 14 new firefighter recruits today, Thursday, June 18, 2026, at 2 p.m. at Central Fire Station.

These new firefighters come from varying backgrounds, bringing diverse experience and education to the SJRFD. On June 1, the new recruits began 15 days of classroom and practical training at the Mount Pearl Fire Station and Kenmount training tower, where they were introduced to the skills, environment, and culture of the firefighting profession.

The Recruitment Ceremony will provide an opportunity to officially welcome these new recruits into the SJRFD family.

New recruits will be assigned to one of eight fire stations where they will have the opportunity to learn from senior firefighters and officers.
