Snow Clean-up Update: Feb. 19, 2026

The snow mostly stopped by 7 a.m. today (Feb. 19), with flurries and blowing snow continuing. Reported accumulations are approximately 56 to 74 cm, with amounts varying by elevation and areas affected by drifting.

All streets are expected to be cleared by 4 p.m. on Friday, February 20. Roads and sidewalks are completed based on priority order, and residents can check the priority rankings at StJohns.ca/ServicePriority.

Snow removal and street widening is required in all areas. This work will begin in the coming days, as weather conditions allow, and is expected to take some time to complete. We are closely monitoring the situation and assure you we will address the needs on a priority bases. There is no need to call and request street widening or snow removal.

We also would like to remind all residents and contractors to not place snow from driveways or parking lots back into the street or on sidewalks. This creates major challenges and slows down snow clearing operations significantly.

Sidewalk Snow Clearing

Many sidewalks will require large snow blowers and/or snow removals, which means it will take longer than five days to address all areas. Crews will continue to focus on priority areas. Crews are working as fast as possible; however it is important to remember that there are over 1,400 lane kms of road that require clearing during a snow event and 193 kms of sidewalk, which does take time.

Weather-Related Parking Ban

The Weather-Related Parking Ban outside the Designated Downtown Area and Business District came into effect on Wednesday, February 18 at 7:30 a.m. and will be lifted at 7:30 a.m. Friday, February 20.

On-street parking is prohibited 24-hours a day until the ban is lifted. Vehicles parked on the road during this time may be ticketed or towed. Subscribe to receive updates to your email.

Waste Collection

Waste collection will now occur as follows:

  • Waste collection originally scheduled for Wednesday, February 18 will now be completed on Friday, February 20.
  • Waste collection originally scheduled for Thursday, February 19 will now be completed on Saturday, February 21.
  • Waste collection scheduled for Friday, February 20 will be completed as scheduled.

Please note that due to these schedule adjustments, collection times may be later than usual. We appreciate your patience as crews work to complete routes safely and efficiently. Residents are reminded that waste must not be placed on top of snowbanks and must be placed at street level clearly accessible for collection.
