Space Available in Winter Recreation Programs

We have space in our recreation programs. We have drawing, painting, rug hooking and a philosophy course for adults. We also have space in our home alone course for children in grades 4 to 6 which is a safety and life skills program.

Rug Hooking – Home Art Decor - Hooking with a Wire Mesh

Beginner/Advanced Rug Hooking Workshop. To encourage the participant to step outside the box of using traditional foundation fabric and instead using a wire mesh bin as the foundation for a fabulous piece of home art décor. Using a variety of techniques to create a 3D hooked mat, including prodded flowers, embroidery stitches, knitted or crochet elements, creative stitches such as sculpting, chain stitch and high/low, and adding beads, buttons and bling.

Lifelong Learners - Introduction to Philosophy

This course will be an introduction to what philosophy is and what kind of questions philosophers try to answer. Each week we will cover a different area of philosophy. No experience with or previous education in philosophy is expected.

Paul Reynolds Community Centre: Wednesdays, Feb. 7 to Mar. 13 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Home Alone

A safety and life skills program for children (Grade 4 to 6) to develop independence to be un-supervised for short periods of time. Topics include online safety, fire safety, street smarts, emergency response, healthy eating and a home readiness plan.

Bring a lunch. The City of St. John's cannot guarantee that children taking this course will be adequately prepared or responsible to remain at home without adult supervision.

Shea Heights Community Centre: Sunday, Feb. 25 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
