The Evacuation Order for Paddy’s Pond Industrial Area, including Akita Equipment and surrounding buildings, hangers, Cochrane Pond Family Campground, Country Ribbon Chicken Farm, Sod Farm and the Forestry Depot, has been lifted effective immediately. 

An immediate precautionary evacuation alert has been issued by the City of St. John’s for the Galway and Southlands areas.

The St. John’s Regional Fire Department is responding to a wildfire within the St. John’s jurisdiction and have initiated the Emergency Command Centre (ECC).

The St. John’s Regional Fire Department is advising residents that wildfires are causing drifting smoke into St. John’s and surrounding areas which may affect air quality in our area. We recommend that residents turn off air exchangers and HVAC units to help reduce indoor smoke exposure.

The St. John’s Regional Fire Department (SJRFD) will no longer issue separate fire advisories. Instead, we encourage all residents to regularly check the Provincial Fire Hazard Map provided by the Department of Fisheries, Forestry, and Agriculture and to follow the associated guidelines.

As the Provincial fire ban has now been lifted, the St. John’s Regional Fire Department informs all residents that the fire ban covering the Region including the City of St. John’s, City of Mount Pearl and Town of Paradise has also been lifted with immediate effect.

The St. John’s Regional Fire Department wishes to advise all citizens that due to the high fire hazard rating for our Region, as identified by the Province, a fire ban is currently in effect within the Region which includes the City of St.
