Road Safety Improvement Projects

The City identifies high-risk locations by reviewing collision reports and looking for areas where collisions occur more often. Staff study these locations to better understand what may be causing the safety concerns.

Based on what is found, the City selects improvements that best address the issues at each site. These may include changes to traffic signal timing, pavement markings, turning rules, sight lines, roads or intersections. Some improvements can be made quickly, while others require larger construction projects.

When construction is needed, several factors help determine when the work will take place. These include the size of the project, available budget, space limitations, design requirements and other planned work happening nearby. Whenever possible, construction is coordinated with other road work and maintenance projects in the area.
